Here's how it works:

1. Target Range: For many patients, a BGL less than 7 mmol/L is within or close to the target range.
2. Sliding Scale: Insulin sliding scales are designed to reduce high BGLs. If the BGL is already in the target range or only slightly above it, the prescribed dose of Actrapid would be minimal.
3. Hypoglycemia Risk: Giving a significant dose of insulin when BGL is already low or in range could lead to hypoglycemia (dangerously low blood sugar). Therefore, the dose would be adjusted accordingly, often to 0-2 units for BGLs just above the target.
