Explain the role and importance of poster design, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

a) Poster design in Graphic Design refers to the creation of visually engaging and informative printed or digital graphics intended to be displayed publicly to convey a message, promote an event, product, or service, or raise awareness about a cause. It combines typography, imagery, and layout principles to capture attention and communicate effectively at a glance.

b) Poster designs were highly useful during the global outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in several ways:

• Public Health Information Dissemination: Posters were crucial for quickly sharing vital health information, such as symptoms of COVID-19, proper handwashing techniques, and the importance of mask-wearing and social distancing. These visual aids helped educate the public rapidly and broadly.
• Promoting Vaccination Campaigns: As vaccines became available, posters were used to encourage vaccination, explaining benefits, dispelling myths, and providing information on where and how to get vaccinated. They played a key role in public health campaigns to achieve herd immunity.
• Guiding Behavior in Public Spaces: Posters were displayed in shops, offices, schools, and public transport to remind people of safety protocols like maintaining 6 feet distance, using hand sanitizer, and following one-way systems. They served as constant visual cues for behavioral changes.
• Supporting Mental Health and Community Solidarity: Beyond health guidelines, posters were designed to offer messages of hope, resilience, and community support during lockdowns and isolation. They helped combat loneliness and anxiety by fostering a sense of collective effort and shared experience.
