Types of operating system

There are several types of operating systems, categorized by their functionality and how they manage resources:

1. Batch Operating System: Processes jobs with similar needs together in batches. No direct user interaction.
2. Time-Sharing Operating System: Allows multiple users to share a single computer system simultaneously. Each user gets a small slice of CPU time.
3. Multitasking Operating System: Allows multiple programs to run concurrently on a single CPU. The OS rapidly switches between tasks.
4. Real-Time Operating System (RTOS): Used for systems that require immediate responses to events, like industrial control systems or medical devices. Tasks must be completed within strict deadlines.
5. Distributed Operating System: Manages a group of independent computers and makes them appear as a single computer. Resources are spread across multiple machines.
6. Mobile Operating System: Designed for mobile devices like smartphones and tablets, focusing on touch interfaces, connectivity, and power management.
