Dadabhai Naoroji, known as the 'Grand Old Man of India', was a prominent early nationalist leader born in 1825. He was a professor of mathematics before dedicating his life to India's freedom struggle.

Naoroji lived in England and worked tirelessly for India's cause. He founded the London India Society in 1865 and the East India Association in London in 1866. He was the first Indian to become a member of the British House of Commons, where he advocated for appointing educated Indians to high posts and helped pass a resolution in 1893 for simultaneous Imperial Civil Service (I.C.S.) Examinations in England and India.

He played a crucial role in the foundation of the Indian National Congress and was elected its President thrice in 1886, 1893, and 1906. Under his presidency, resolutions on Self-government, Boycott, Swadeshi, and National Education were passed. He is credited with demanding Swaraj (self-rule) for the first time from the Congress platform in his 1906 Presidential address.
