The birth of Jesus Christ is a foundational event in Christianity, traditionally celebrated on December 25th as Christmas. According to the Gospels of Matthew and Luke in the New Testament, Jesus was born in Bethlehem to Mary, a virgin, and Joseph, her husband, while they were there for a census. His birth was prophesied in the Old Testament and is believed by Christians to fulfill these prophecies, marking the incarnation of God as a human being.
