c) Describe THREE steps followed when preparing a plant specimen for a herbarium.
i. Collection: Carefully collect a healthy plant specimen, ensuring it includes roots, stem, leaves, and reproductive structures (flowers/fruits) if available.
ii. Pressing and Drying: Place the collected specimen between sheets of absorbent paper (e.g., newspaper) and press it flat using a plant press or heavy objects. Dry the specimen in a well-ventilated area, changing the absorbent papers regularly until it is completely dry.
iii. Mounting and Labelling: Mount the dried specimen onto a herbarium sheet using glue or tape. Attach a label with essential information such as the scientific name, family, collector's name, date, location, and habitat.

d) Give THREE reasons why specimen collection and preservation are important in Biology.
i. They allow for future study and research of organisms, enabling scientists to track changes over time or conduct detailed analyses.
ii. They aid in the identification and classification of unknown species, contributing to our understanding of biodiversity.
iii. They provide a permanent record of existing species, which is crucial for conservation efforts and documenting biodiversity.
