OUTLINE A STEP BY STEP PROCEDURE INVOLVE IN BUDDING

Choose a healthy, dormant bud (the scion) from the plant you want to propagate and a compatible rootstock plant.

Make a T-shaped incision through the bark of the rootstock, usually on a smooth part of the stem.

Carefully lift the bark flaps of the T-cut and insert the prepared bud, ensuring the cambium layers of both the bud and the rootstock are in close contact.

Wrap the union tightly with grafting tape or budding rubber, leaving the bud itself exposed. This helps hold the bud in place and prevents dehydration.

Once the bud has successfully united with the rootstock and begins to grow, prune the rootstock stem just above the new bud to encourage its development.
