Psoriasis disease and it treatment

Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the skin. It causes the life cycle of skin cells to speed up, resulting in the rapid buildup of skin cells on the surface of the skin. These cells form thick, silvery scales and itchy, dry, red patches that are sometimes painful.

Treatment for psoriasis aims to reduce inflammation and remove scales to make the skin less noticeable. Common treatments include:

• Topical treatments: These are creams, lotions, and ointments applied directly to the skin. Examples include corticosteroids, vitamin D analogues, retinoids, and salicylic acid.
• Phototherapy: This involves exposing the skin to ultraviolet light under medical supervision.
• Systemic medications: For more severe cases, oral or injected medications that affect the whole body are used. These include methotrexate, cyclosporine, and biologics.
