What are the differences between Ranunculaceous, Cruciferous, Rubiaceous, and Caryophyllaceous stomata?

Here's the distinction for the pairs of stomata:

• i) Ranunculaceous and Cruciferous stomata:

  • Ranunculaceous stomata are typically anomocytic (also known as irregular-celled). In this type, the stomata are surrounded by a variable number of ordinary epidermal cells that are indistinguishable in size and shape from the other epidermal cells.
  • Cruciferous stomata are typically anisocytic (also known as unequal-celled). Here, each stoma is surrounded by three subsidiary cells, one of which is distinctly smaller than the other two.

• ii) Rubiaceous and Caryophyllaceous stomata:

  • Rubiaceous stomata are typically paracytic (also known as parallel-celled). In this type, each stoma is accompanied by two subsidiary cells that are arranged parallel to the guard cells and the stomatal pore.
  • Caryophyllaceous stomata are typically diacytic (also known as cross-celled). Here, each stoma is enclosed by two subsidiary cells whose common wall is at right angles to the long axis of the stomatal pore.
