We first met the Assistant Headmaster, who introduced us to the Headmaster. The Headmaster then introduced us to the student body and teachers during morning assembly. After the introduction, we were assigned to various classes. Myself and one colleague were posted to Primary B1, where our mentor teacher warmly welcomed us. This day helped me familiarize myself with the school environment, facilities, and daily routine activities. The mentor also introduced me to basic classroom management and lesson delivery. Day 2: Saturday, 18/4/2026 - Curriculum & Teaching Observation This was the second week of my STS. I discussed the basic school curriculum with my mentor teacher. We reviewed the various instructional materials including textbooks, syllabus, resource pack, pupil’s exercise book, and termly scheme of work. I also observed lessons to assess the teacher’s knowledge, classroom management, and lesson introduction techniques. I noticed an incident where the mentor teacher attended first to a learner who had not understood the topic taught. This showed me how teachers respond to learners’ needs during lessons. Day 3: Sunday, 19/4/2026 - Learner Background & Portfolio This was the last day of the week’s observation. I learned how socio-economic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds influence how learners perform during teaching and learning. My mentor guided me to do a background check on the learners to understand how their societal background affects them. We also discussed individual beliefs and values, and I learned how to build a portfolio electronically for STS documentation. Conclusion & Reflection In conclusion, my STS for the first semester was very successful. I have learned new professional traits and characteristics, and I was able to familiarize myself with the school environment, teachers, learners, and school routine.
