Types of computer hubs

There are two main types of computer hubs:

• Passive Hubs: These hubs simply act as a conduit for data. They do not amplify or clean the signal, nor do they process any data. They just pass the electrical signals from one port to all other ports, meaning the signal quality degrades over distance.
• Active Hubs: These hubs are more sophisticated. They regenerate or amplify the incoming signal before broadcasting it to all other ports, which helps to extend the maximum distance of the network. Active hubs often require external power to perform this signal regeneration.
