In this project, you are going to find information about a settlement. This settlement must be located in South Africa and may either be a rural or an urban settlement. Choose ONE settlement and follow the requirements below.

• This should be a concise paragraph, between 5 and 8 lines long.

• Your map must include symbols, a key, or a legend.
• It should clearly show both human-made and natural-made features.
• Marks will be awarded for neatness.

• Explain why the settlement was established or grew in its specific geographical position.

• Provide a brief description of the landmark.
• Explain its purpose and uses.
• Include at least three illustrations of this landmark.

Section B: Social or Environmental Issue & Interview

• Choose one specific issue (e.g., water scarcity, unemployment, pollution).
• Develop questions that will help you understand this issue from the perspective of residents.

• Use the questions you prepared in Step 1.

• 3.1 Identify the specific social or environmental issue you investigated and explain why it is considered an issue.
• 3.2 Describe the causes of this issue based on your interview findings.
• 3.3 Explain the effects of this issue on either the people living in the settlement or the environment, or both.
• 3.4 Detail what is currently being done to address this issue, according to your interviewees.
• 3.5 Based on the interview findings, state your valid personal opinion regarding this issue.
