ACTIVITY 1: (INTRODUCTION)

1.1. This question is an instruction for your project. You need to ensure you have provided copies of your survey (Annexure A) to five community members, analyzed their responses, and attached them to the back of your project.

1.2. Poor road conditions refer to the state of roads that are damaged, poorly maintained, or inadequately designed, making them unsafe or difficult to use for vehicles and pedestrians. An example is a road filled with numerous deep potholes that cause damage to vehicles and pose a risk of accidents.

1.3. FOUR main causes of poor road conditions in South Africa:

• Lack of adequate funding for road maintenance and upgrades.
• Poor quality of materials and construction practices.
• Heavy traffic volumes, especially from large trucks, causing accelerated wear and tear.
• Inadequate drainage systems leading to water damage and erosion of road surfaces.

1.4. Community services are essential services provided to the public by local government or other organizations to improve the quality of life for residents. These services often include infrastructure like roads, water supply, sanitation, waste removal, and public safety.

1.5. THREE responsibilities of the people about community services:

• Reporting damage or issues with community services, such as potholes or burst pipes, to the relevant authorities.
• Paying for services where applicable, such as rates and taxes, to ensure the sustainability and maintenance of these services.
• Using community services responsibly and not vandalizing public infrastructure.
