Research the impacts of drought in your local area for Grade 11 Geography.

Clearly identify the specific geographical area you will focus on for your research (e.g., your town, village, or district).

Investigate if and when droughts have occurred in your chosen local area. Look for information on the causes of these droughts (e.g., low rainfall, climate change).

Research the specific impacts of drought on your local area. Consider different categories:

• Environmental impacts: Effects on water sources (rivers, dams, boreholes), soil, vegetation, and wildlife.
• Economic impacts: Effects on agriculture (crop failure, livestock deaths), businesses, and employment.
• Social impacts: Effects on human health, food security, water availability for domestic use, and migration.

Collect data and information from various sources relevant to your local area. This could include:

• Local news articles and reports.
• Interviews with community members, farmers, or local authorities.
• Government reports or statistics on water levels and agricultural output.
• Observations of the local environment.

Organize your findings into a clear report. A typical structure includes:

• Introduction: Briefly introduce your local area and the purpose of your research.
• Causes of Drought: Explain why droughts occur in your area.
• Impacts of Drought: Detail the environmental, economic, and social impacts you identified.
• Solutions/Recommendations: Suggest ways to mitigate the effects of drought or adapt to it in your local area.
• Conclusion: Summarize your findings.
• Bibliography: List all sources you used.
