Akan twin naming conventions and the impact of patrilineal naming on identity.

Opanin Kwame Agyeman and Maame Yaa Baffo had female twins. Following Akan custom, female twins are called Attaa. The twins were named Attaa Panin (Attaa Senior) and Attaa Kumaa (Attaa Junior) according to their birth order. They were also named after their paternal grandmother, Nana Akua Ntiamoa. For school, they were registered as Akua Ntiamoa Agyeman Senior and Akua Ntiamoa Agyeman Junior, but were popularly known as Attaa Panin and Attaa Kumaa.
