Explain Renaissance art and outline four discoveries relevant to art today. Write about the life and works of Ablade Glover.

Here are the answers to the questions:

1. (a) Explain the term Renaissance art
Renaissance art refers to the style of painting, sculpture, and architecture that emerged in Europe during the 15th and 16th centuries, primarily in Italy. It was characterized by a renewed interest in classical antiquity, humanism, naturalism, and the development of linear perspective, chiaroscuro, and sfumato techniques. Artists aimed for realism, emotional expression, and a sense of order and balance.

1. (b) Outline four discoveries of the Renaissance period that are relevant to art today.

• The development of linear perspective allowed artists to create the illusion of three-dimensional space on a two-dimensional surface, a fundamental technique still used in drawing, painting, and digital art.
• The widespread use of oil paint provided artists with greater flexibility, richer colors, and the ability to create subtle gradations and textures, influencing painting techniques to this day.
• The study of human anatomy led to more realistic and accurate depictions of the human form, which remains crucial for figurative artists and animators.
• The invention of the printing press revolutionized the dissemination of images and ideas, making art more accessible and influencing graphic design and mass media.
