Air does not only have gas in it. Dust hangs in the air. Pollen and tiny seeds float in the air. This is why some people sneeze when they are near some plants. There are also germs and bacteria in the air. If you live near a factory or a city then the air also contains pollution. On mountains the air is cleaner. But as you climb up a mountain the air becomes thinner. There is less oxygen. This is why climbers carry their own oxygen in tanks when they climb up high mountains like Mount Everest.
