With the help of the teacher and parents, identify somebody and write a biography (a true-life story) of a South African who has contributed to building democracy (it does not have to be a famous person, you can write a biography of a person who lives in your local area).

This is a Grade 6 History Project on "The Life Story of a Democratic Leader." Here are the requirements:

• 1. Identify a Person: Choose a South African who has contributed to building democracy. This person does not have to be famous; they can be someone from your local area.
• 2. Type of Leader: The person can be a religious leader, sports person, business person, artist, traditional leader, or politician.
• 3. Collect Information: Gather information using various sources like library books, the internet, pictures, photographs, newspapers, and interviews with people who know the person.
• 4. Arrange Information: Organize the collected information to tell the story of the person's life.
• 5. Assessment: Study the assessment rubric provided by your teacher.
• 6. Add a Bibliography: Include a bibliography listing all sources used (interviewees, magazines, books, newspapers, encyclopedias).
  • For a person (interviewee): Full name (last name first), occupation, date of interview.
  • For a magazine: Author (last name first), "article title", name of magazine, volume number (date), page numbers.
  • For a book: Author (last name, initials), title of book, publisher, date of publication.
  • From an encyclopaedia: Encyclopaedia title, edition date, volume number, "article title", page numbers.
• 7. Biography Headings: Structure your biography with the following sections:
  • Paragraph 1: Description of the person's early life:
    • Full name of the person
    • Date of birth (and death, if applicable)
    • Place of birth
    • Picture of the person
    • Schooling and early life
    • Their profession (type of work)
  • Paragraph 2: Important things the person did to build democracy.
  • Paragraph 3: Reflections: What you have learned or admire about the chosen person.
  • A timeline: About five key events in the person's life.
  • Bibliography: (As detailed in point 6).
