The content of the Research should focus on the following:

• The factors contributed to violence during the South Africa's transition period.
• What effects did violence have during the transition period?
• Measures taken by the government to end violence during the period of transition.

INSTRUCTIONS AND GUIDANCE TO LEARNERS:
I. Consult different sources that defines or explain the concept violence / also ask from knowledgeable people what they think.
II. Investigate the trends of violent incidents in South Africa from 1990 to 1994.
III. Investigate factors that contributed to violence during South Africa's transitional period.
IV. Investigate what effects violence had during South Africa's transition.
V. Investigate measures taken by the government by the government to end violence during South Africa's transition.
VI. Investigate the effectiveness of government's measures to end violence in South Africa during 1990 to 1994.

RESEARCH GUIDELINES: THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA SHOULD BE USED FOR PURPOSES OF MARK ALLOCATION

• Organisation & presentation of learner portfolio (evidence of performance).
• Draw a Research Plan.
• Identify & Access relevant sources of information (textual & human resources). For human resource, identify at least 3 relevant people.
• Develop/ Formulate ONE question per item above (to assist in your investigation). The same questions should be directed to the 3 interviewees identified.
• Present the findings of the research in a form of an essay of 2 – 3 pages. Learners should use their own language. This is where plagiarism should be avoided at all costs. The essay should be well structured (with an Introduction, Body and Conclusion).
• Recommendations (a learner should write a paragraph of two on how the South African government can reduce the violent crime in the South African schools).
