Lean focuses on producing only what is needed, when it is needed, to avoid overproduction and excess inventory, which are considered wastes. Therefore, Lean prioritizes flow and value creation over merely maximizing the uptime of individual resources, even if it means some resources are temporarily idle to prevent system-wide waste.

iii) Effectiveness refers to doing the right things, meaning achieving the desired goal or outcome. Efficiency refers to doing things right, meaning achieving the desired outcome with the least amount of resources (time, money, effort, materials).
