Barter System and Standardised Currencies: While direct barter was common, certain items served as a form of currency or standard of value to facilitate transactions. Iron bars, cowrie shells, and specific quantities of salt were often used to standardize prices and enable trade across diverse communities that might not have had direct reciprocal needs. 5. Trading Towns and Market Centers: Major trading centers and towns emerged strategically along the routes, serving as hubs for the exchange, storage, and redistribution of goods.
